Mobile Manufacturers do Battle
May data is in and Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch (we exclude the iPad from mobile analysis) still account for more mobile web consumption than all other devices combined.
Although still growing in terms of total consumption, Apple’s relative share of the pie continues to fall as other manufacturers’ devices become more competitive.
Looking back over the past year its clear that most of Apple’s share loss has come at the expense of Motorola, who have really come from nowhere and are now closing in on BlackBerry’s #2 spot. Much of this growth can be attributed to demand on the Verizon network for powerful smartphone functionality delivered by Motorola’s Droid, and we’ll be on the lookout for further shifts in consumption related to the HTC Incredible and Sprint’s recently released Evo 4G (also manufactured by HTC).
