There has been a lot of excitement in the UK and across the world about the Royal wedding – according to video streaming sources such as YouTube it was the most watched online live event ever. The wedding was watched in the UK by 24 Million people, but what happened to normal Internet browsing during the wedding?
Analyzing browsing in the UK shows large dips (up to 25%) before, during and after the wedding service (which itself started at 11am). The largest, sharpest drop in traffic was the last – at 1:25pm when the newly married couple appeared on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Not quite a complete shut down in the UK, but evidence that people stopped their normal browsing to watch the ceremony and subsequent kiss! British Royalty isn’t quite dead.
