Happy Black History Month! I’m Leah McClish-Jones, Key Account Manager at Quantcast, and I co-lead Diversity Leadership at Quantcast, our employee resource group (ERG) for people of color and allies. During February, we’re looking forward to celebrating the Black leaders and pioneers who have made lasting change in the world, and continuing our conversations around how we must keep advancing equity and inclusion at work and in our communities.

At Quantcast, we have four pillars of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiatives, and during the month of February we’ll be leaning into our Education and Awareness pillar. The focus of this pillar reminds me of the importance of confronting the issues that still exist in our society and a fitting quote from a novelist, playwright, poet and activist, and one of the leaders that has inspired me:

“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” – James Baldwin

So, together with my colleagues in Diversity Leadership at Quantcast, we’ve organized some learning and discussion events for our global team, including:

  • Global Dimensions of Black History with Dr. Power-Greene: We’ll be joined by Dr. Ousmane Power-Greene, Associate Professor of History at Clark University, who will discuss the global dimensions of Black social and political movements, including an examination of the renewed interest in and discussion around historical monuments.
  • How Businesses Respond to Crises: We’ll host Alex King, the leader of the Mahogany ERG at Slack, and Zoelle Egner, with marketing at Airtable, for a discussion on how people, ERGs, and brands respond when social injustices and movements occur.

We look forward to sharing our learnings with you, and highlighting some of our inspiring team members throughout the month.
