Quantcast further bolsters its privacy team appointing former IAB Europe privacy director, Matthias Matthiesen, as senior privacy counsel

Dublin, 5 June, 2019 – Quantcast, the audience intelligence and measurement company, today announced the appointment of Matthias Matthiesen as senior privacy counsel based in Dublin. Mr Matthiesen joins Quantcast’s Legal and Corporate Development Team and is responsible for creating, advising and enforcing global privacy and data protection policy for Quantcast, as well as guiding its clients and partners through compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other emerging data privacy regulations around the world.

A leading global data protection expert, Mr Matthiesen joins Quantcast from his role as director of privacy and public policy at the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) Europe. While there, he led the industry body’s strategy and approach to privacy and data protection, including playing a key part in developing its Transparency and Consent Framework in response to GDPR.

In his new role, Mr Matthiesen will liaise with legislators and regulators in global markets and work closely with trade organisations of which Quantcast is a member, including the IAB, the Network Advertising Initiative (NAI), the Digital Advertising Alliance (DAA), and the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA).

Throughout his four years at the IAB Europe based in Brussels, Mr Matthiesen worked across EU public affairs and public policy and privacy, which, combined with his background in European and comparative law, will inform the further development of Quantcast’s transparency and privacy policy.

Ari Levenfeld, Quantcast’s chief privacy officer, commented on the appointment: “We’re delighted to have Matthias join our legal team at Quantcast. He will play a key role in ensuring our products and services are in alignment with EU law while anticipating the evolving needs of our customers. This will help Quantcast continue our mission to radically simplify advertising on the open internet by providing simplicity for brands when it comes to consumer consent compliance.”

Mr Matthiesen’s appointment follows recent appointments bolstering Quantcast’s legal and privacy team in February.

Mr Matthiesen commented, “I have had the pleasure to work closely with Quantcast during my time at IAB Europe, where Quantcast has substantially contributed to the development and recent review of the Transparency and Consent Framework. I believe Quantcast’s approach to privacy, and its leadership in enabling transparency and choice online is an important step toward better advertising and publishing industries.  I look forward to being a part of Quantcast’s continued efforts to empower users online, and its mission to sustain a free and open internet.

Privacy-by-design has been a core principle for Quantcast since it was founded in 2006. With the introduction of GDPR in May 2018, Quantcast led the way towards a more transparent future for the advertising and publishing industries and towards consumers with the launch of its free consent management platform (CMP), Quantcast Choice. Quantcast Choice has so far been deployed by 26,000 websites globally, making it the most widely adopted CMP based on the IAB Europe’s Transparency and Consent Framework.

On May 15, 2019, Quantcast launched Quantcast Choice Premium, a more powerful paid version of its CMP designed for website owners managing multiple sites.
