The University of Iowa Hawkeyes see clearly from their perch as the state's largest university. Founded in 1847, the University of Iowa has some 30,000 students (about two-thirds of which are Iowa residents) at its Iowa City campus. It is home to 11 colleges spanning more than 100 areas of study, including distinguished programs in audiology, print making, speech pathology, nursing service administration, and creative writing (its Writers' Workshop was the nation's first creative writing advanced degree program).
