Ch-ch-ch-changes -- turn and face the strain. Transmeta made the transition from microprocessor supplier to licensor of microprocessor cores and other intellectual property. The company is focusing its efforts on licensing its semiconductor intellectual property rather than selling chips. Taking out a license for Transmeta's LongRun2 chip design technologies, Toshiba remains one of the company's largest clients. Transmeta was offering engineering services on a contract basis, notably to Sony and Microsoft, but has ended that line of business to concentrate on licensing. The company gets most of its revenues in Japan. In early 2009 Transmeta was acquired by Novafora, Inc. for nearly $256 million in cash. [Description from Hoover's]
