TOKYOPOP Group has brought snap and crackle to the worldwide teen entertainment marketplace. The firm licenses and publishes Asian "manga" comics, books, DVDs, and music. "Manga" is a Japanese pop-culture art form featuring doe-eyed characters caught up in epic struggles (also called "Japanimation" in its live action version). TOKYOPOP's titles include Sailor Moon, Paradise Kiss, and Vampire Game. Additionally, the firm has licensed the rights to US creations such as Spy Kids and Lizzie McGuire, giving them a manga spin. TOKYOPOP also has a comics-to-film division for bringing TOKYOPOP manga to the big screen. The company was founded in 1997 by CEO Stuart Levy; it counts SOFTBANK and Mitsui among its investors.
