Talk about a large mandate the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, or OES, deals with issues concerning science, the environment, and the world's oceans. The bureau works on fishery and marine conservation, space science, sustainable development, and global climate change. It helps set international ocean law, transboundary air quality regulations, and environmental components of free trade agreements and multilateral organizations. OES also includes the Office of International Health Affairs, which sets policy for bioterrorism, environmental health, infectious diseases, and post-war health.
