Preroll Video Ad Specifications – also called InStream video

A Flash FLV file with the following characteristics:

  • File Size – 3.0 MB or smaller. Recommended size is just under 2.0 MB.
    • This minimizes CDN costs but still allows you to have suitable video quality. CDN cost is tiered towards whole number increments.
    • Higher file sizes result in timeouts and your ad will not be played as there is a limited amount of time that a user will wait (and ad player) prior to playing the video.
    • Begin with a high quality video and reduce the bitrate to achieve the desired file size.
  • Time Duration – 15 seconds
    • If you are an advertiser, 15 second duration allows your ad to be placed on the maximum number of placements.
    • If you are a publisher, many publishers limit the duration to 15 seconds to minimize abandonment rates on their video content.
  • Codecs
    • Agnostic toward On2 VP6 and Sorenson Spark video codecs. The F4V container format (for H.264) is not supported.
  • Aspect Ratio - 4:3 or 16:9 aspects ratios are acceptable.
  • Frame Rate and Dimension
    • 30 fps. Video will be sized to fit player automatically.

General Content Standards

  • White ads must have a distinct border to clearly identify where the page ends, and advertisement begins
  • Sponsor of the advertising message must be clearly identified
  • Advertiser’s landing page must match the offer being made in the advertisement
  • It is the advertiser’s responsibility to ensure that all product claims, warranties, guarantees or other assurances comply with applicable laws and regulations
  • Ad unit and landing page must have detailed disclosures as appropriate; in particular, full terms and conditions of the offer must be easily accessible on landing page
  • Quantcast reserves the right to reject any ad on behalf of, or which promotes Quantcast competitors or products, services or activities contrary to Quantcast’s competitive position or interests (e.g. ads which disparage the Internet as a medium)
  • Quantcast reserves the right to request additional changes to submitted ads, or reject any ad unit in its sole discretion

Creative Restrictions

  • Use of “bait and switch” tactics, e.g. advertising that promotes an unavailable product or price as a means of luring the user into purchasing a different product
  • Displays false functionality — contain graphics that simulate interactivity where no such interactivity exists
  • Resembles error messages or Windows/Mac/Unix dialogue boxes
  • Prompts a download
  • Mimics news headlines in design, tone, third person sentence structure, or topic
