Ingenio had the ingenious idea of bridging the gap between online buyers and offline sellers by using the good ole telephone. Here's how its Pay Per Call advertising service works -- online advertisers include a toll free number set up by Ingenio in a listing at ingenio.com. Through search engines, potential customers find the merchant's advertisement listing, and if interested, call the number to be connected to the merchant. Ingenio monitors how many times the number has been called, charges the advertiser, and shares the profits with the search engine.
