Better not get on Angie's bad side -- she's got a list. Brownstone Publishing, which does business as Angie's List, provides consumer ratings on companies in the service industry. The company collects about 40,000 reports every month from people who live in some 125 US cities, rating local providers in more than 400 categories, including roofing, plumbing, and landscaping contractors, auto repair ships, and most recently, doctors, grading them on an A through F scale. The company's revenue comes from subscription fees. Angie's more than 750,000 members receive a list of up to 10 highly-rated local firms in their area of interest, or they can perform their own research on the company's Web site, angieslist.com.
