The organization responsible for the American College Test, required for admission to the public colleges in the majority of states; manages other tests and programs, too. [Description from dmoz]
These three little letters strike fear in the hearts of high-school students across the US. ACT most famously develops and administers the national college admission exam that bears its name (more than 1 million high-school seniors take it each year), but the company also designs educational assessment and workforce development programs for people of all ages around the world. Its EXPLORE program, for example, helps students determine how prepared they are for college. Its Workforce Solutions division provides assessment, training, and consulting to employers. Founded in 1959 as The American College Testing Program, ACT has offices across the US and in Australia, China, South Korea, Singapore, and Spain. [Description from Hoover's]
